PPI Protoplast Inc. started its industrial life as a research and development company and as it has evolved into a single source manufacturing facility the R&D division is still the backbone of the company.

Very few parts enter the PPI production cycle without going through the R&D department. If it is a part that PPI has not made before it has to be designed to the latest specs that the R&D division will develop, if the part is a repeat it still has to checked for the potential of improvement. This constant evaluation of all processes is a PPI standard.

When working with established industry processes PPI is not afraid to innovate. The latest example of this was a part that demanded both rigidity and flexibility. It was decided that this unusual demand could only be satisfied by using the injection molding process for the rigidity and a blowmold process for the flexibility. PPI developed a mold that could do both processes and proceeded to manufacture the part to the customer's satisfaction.
